GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION ON PROFILES OF PERSONALITIES
We’re interested in stories about personalities in the North-East who are entrepreneurs making a positive difference. We want to highlight the contributions of ordinary people who do extraordinary things.
These profiles, approximately 1,200 words in length, should include an in-depth interview with the subject as well as quotes from at least two “endorsers” who can vouch for how the person is “making a difference.” We’ll also want to learn why the individual is so passionate about his or her work.
Pitch your story proposals to the e-mail address as below:
Keep them brief (no more than a paragraph or two) and focus on telling us why your story will interest readers in the Northeast
Payment will be Rs 1000 per article. All pieces must be original for TNT Chic. We cannot accept stories that have been published elsewhere.
Guidelines for READERS’ FORUM (Poetry/Short Stories/Essays/Cartoons/Photos/Videos):
TNT Chic is looking for upbeat, personal essays/stories from 500 to 1000 words. These are first-person, non-fiction explorations of how you responded to a place, a person, a situation, an event, or happenings in everyday life. Tell a story; share a funny true tale. The humor should be gentle. We accept essays on a wide variety of subjects, and encourage timely, newsy. All material must be original and previously unpublished. We are always looking for essays on travel, parenting (your experiences with children as opposed to advice for someone else), home, family, gardening, neighborhood, and community.
We also welcome short poems. We are particularly interested in poetry that has an international flavor or that offers some global or cultural insights. Short poems are more likely to be accepted (because of space constraints) than poems that are more than 18 lines long.
Photos: We welcome high quality images to accompany your material. Please submit them as separate image files (e.g. jpg), and at a high resolution (300dpi). If you have several large image files to submit, please consider using Drop box or a big file website e.g. Wetransfer.com. Please ensure that you have permission from the rights holders for TNT to reproduce the photos.
Please send all submissions of poems/short stories/essays to firstname.lastname@example.org while also forwarding them to email@example.com & firstname.lastname@example.org
Please send all submissions of pictures/videos/cartoons to email@example.com
GUIDELINES FOR STORY FEATURES
Check the TNT Chic website to make sure we have not recently run a piece on the same topic you are proposing.
Send us a pitch—not a finished draft. Usually two or three paragraphs are enough to let us know if your idea is something we want to pursue. The best pitches are packed with specific information, represent your writing style, and indicate the sources of information you intend to use.
Include your credentials, including relevant published clips. Email your pitch to the given mail ids with the word “PITCH” in the subject line.
firstname.lastname@example.org & email@example.com
We cannot respond personally to every pitch we are sent. You will receive an email saying we have your pitch. If you don’t hear from us again within four weeks, you can assume that we have decided not to use your idea.
If your pitch gets our interest, we’ll follow up with some thoughts and suggestions. Once the assignment is settled, we’ll negotiate a deadline, a word count, and a rate. When we’re ready to make an assignment, we will send an email detailing the requirements and payment for the feature.
Should we wish to publish your work, you must know and acknowledge the following:
Most articles we publish go through multiple rounds of editing and fact-checking. Writers are expected to work with the editors on revisions, for as many rounds as the editors see fit.
TNT Chic assumes no legal liability whatsoever for the works of its contributors. Writers are wholly responsible for all statements in their works, including any opinions, facts, errors. TNT Chic does not support or endorse any statements expressed by its contributors.
All works submitted to TNT Chic must be the sole, original property of the contributor(s), and cannot interfere with any other publication or company’s publishing rights.
When you file a story with us, it is assumed that the piece is original and will be exclusive to us for 90 days worldwide in all media from the date of publication. This includes the right to distribute the story via aggregation and syndication and to post it on TNT Chic’s Web site and social media platforms.
Once you have been given the go-ahead to write, your editor will send you an email agreement. We cannot publish your work without the agreement. Except in unusual circumstances, we accept a new writer’s work “on spec” only. That means you give us the opportunity to read your story before we decide whether to accept it; and our agreeing to look at something on spec implies no financial or other obligation on our part.
If we commission you to write stories, there is a financial obligation on our part. If you file a commissioned story that fulfills what you pitched to us, we will pay you our basic rate for the story whether we run it or not. If the commissioned story you deliver is unsatisfactory, we will ask you to rework it or we will pay a kill fee, usually half the basic rate. We may not pay a fee, however, if the story arrives too late for avoidable reasons.
As a rough guideline, and depending on how many pictures are included, a one page feature is 700 words, 2 page is 1,200 words and 3 page is 1,800 words. Bear in mind that feature material is normally scheduled several months in advance.
Rates are typically between Rs 500 to Rs 1500 per feature depending on the experience of the writer, the word count, number of images sent and whether the feature includes interviews.
Please note that all submissions should be an original piece of work and should not be copying another person’s work and submitting it as your own, word-for-word/ Copying another person’s work and changing some words or phrases/ Copying any part of another person’s work, whether changing words or not/“Spinning” another person’s work/Using another person’s idea as your own, including the progression, flow, and main points of a post, examples, images, etc./Copying content from any website, whether an author is given or not.
PS: Freelance Writers as well as Guest Contributors will need to sign an agreement with TNT Chic before entering into any agreement/contract pertaining to the Pitched idea and once a heads-up for the same is given. The format for the same is given below (for your reference) and will be mailed across once confirmed.
